RELEVANCE OF THE ESTABLISHED MIS ON OPERATION WORKOUTS

With the achievement of 100 percent compliance in the process of reporting of operation workouts, we are able to bring out the Executive Summary in time for the month of April 2006.

While some reservations have been expressed by a few stakeholders in the regions, at times depicting their work as representing a kind of ‘post office’, we would like to describe the significance of the process and reporting activities related to operation workout. We shall be happy to receive any responses or suggestions in this regard.

PROCESS: What?

Through the process of operation workout, the classroom learning is related and reinforced in terms of practical application in the field, preparing the student for the realities of professional life, and ensuring their success in the later day's SIP and Placement activity. Unless and until this is clear to the students and faculty alike, there can never be a holistic management of learning and mentoring.

REPORTING: Why?

The process of operation workout that runs through all the 4 Semesters of the MBA program needs to be duly documented and recorded. The MIS enabled formats ensure accuracy in reporting.

The regional office has to evaluate each operation workout exercise on the basis of 4 parameters - coverage, relevance, quality, and collaborative nature, which is no easy task, for it demands complete understanding of the curriculum, course and content on the part of the staff involved at the regional office. Unless done meticulously, evaluation can never be accurate and visibly true.

A greater question that needs to be answered is, with a variety of personnel at regional office (from marketing, T&P, & academic) being associated with evaluation and reporting to HQ, the quality and relevance of each operation workout exercise is not being duly checked.

The question is 'are the regional offices adequately equipped with personnel who can research and judge the quality and relevance of operation workout exercises of faculty, and relate their significance to actual chapters of domains of the MBA program. Here, the regional heads and regional office staff need to make an introspection of whether they are adequately equipped to make proper assessment and evaluation of operation workout exercises forwarded by centres.

As for now, the regional offices are all responsible entities for reporting on the operation workout, with HQ playing the role of validation and facilitation of learning by sharing, and projecting the same as one of the 4 KRAs taken for faculty’s performance appraisal. Hence, the real onus lies on the regional offices in making a discrete assessment of the quality of each operation workout exercise, and in gauging the relevance of each exercise in reinforcing classroom learning.

A super-ordinate goal of all this activity is the quantum of learning and sharing that can be facilitated through monthly executive summary presented to each region and centre. If properly internalized, this could bring in significant improvement in the implementation of operation workouts by faculty members.
